Their well-crafted landscapes evoke powerful memories and visceral experiences through impactful use of color and composition, rooted in intimate locations.
Highly regarded in the field of oil painters, Bill Gallen grew up on the shores of Lake Michigan in Wisconsin. He developed an early appreciation for the wonders of the natural world. Bill graduated from the University of Wisconsin- Madison having studied German and History, and spent a year abroad studying at the University of Freiburg in Germany. Plans to pursue an academic career gave way to a new direction when he moved to Colorado with his brother, following a “inner call” to explore the Rocky Mountains. Nurturing a lifelong interest in art, landscape painter David Ballew lead Bill to a lineage of fine teachers, all who remain life-long friends. Bill resides in Santa Fe where he enjoys painting landscapes, particularly on location, “ en plein air”. Bill masterfully captures the constantly changing skies and terrain found in New Mexico and beyond.
Mike Wise grew up in the Pacific Northwest with natural beauty all around him. His first career was in the financial industry as a stockbroker for Bank of America. He recalled a day he went to an art show with a friend, and just knew he wanted to paint. For the next decade, Wise spent all his free time learning to paint until he was ready to make his “day job” that of an artist. All he has to do is walk out his front door on Whidbey Island in Washington State for inspiration. Today Wise in an impressionist oil painter best known for his landscapes. His approach to representational art is based in abstract design with loose brushwork and extensive use of palette knife. Mike is a Signature Member of Oil Painters of America (OPA) and a member of the American Impressionist Society (AIS).
